Why are the source files always in a different download?

What do you mean? Tomcat always creates an archive of all source files. As of 2014-02-27 you can also download the latest development version via SourceForge:

https://sourceforge.net/p/scoreville/code/HEAD/tree/

I meant on the main site, you know, where you always download the newest version. There are 2 different files you need to download.

You can dl the old or the new version of the game. And the old and new sources of the game.
The source files are intended more for developers, not for players.
